While I'm thinking about all the progress toward ending mountaintop removal mining this year, here's another reminder and something to be grateful for:
We have until next Wednesday, December 1st, to comment on EPA's guidance memorandum: Improving EPA Review of Appalachian Surface Coal Mining Operations Under the Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and the Environmental Justice Executive Order.
EPA has a page where you can access this document and supporting studies that outline stronger protection for Appalachiam mountains and headwaters based on sound science and mandates for environmental justice.
If you have not already sent your comments, you can take action at iLoveMountains.org to let EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson know that you appreciate EPA's efforts to protect Appalachian communities from harmful mountaintop removal mining practices.
In these days of great shifts toward gentler, more loving and more respectful ways of relating to Earth, I certainly welcome efforts from many, many directions to restore balance and harmony to Appalachia. Thank you one and all!
