This article summarizes a statement made by Massey miner, Stanley "Goose" Stewart at a Congressional hearing on the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. Stewart and his crew were in the mine the day of the explosion but escaped harm, unlike 29 other miners. This was my favorite quote:
"In my years of working for Massey, I feel they have taken coal mining back to the early 1990s using 3 principles; fear, intimidation, and propaganda."
